1972 Highlights

Petty won the first race of the 1972 season only five days after signing a multi-year sponsorship agreement with STP. Petty took the checker at Richmond in the third race of the season. Running on 7 cylinders he took the win at Martinsville by a whopping 7 laps. after a wild ride on the steel rail at Richmond in race #25, Petty scooted to the checkered flag on a flat tire. after a tight points race and 8 wins, Petty took the Winston Cup Championship, 127.9 points ahead of Bobby Allison.
